About
An interview from the 2015 PhotoPlus Expo in New York City with Michael Hejtmanek of Hasselblad Bron. Hasselblad has been the leading manufacturer and partner for photographers working in the medium format environment for over half a century, consistently providing the highest level of quality and innovation. Recently Hasselblad was the first to launch the fully integrated medium format camera system incorporating the latest in CMOS sensor technology: the H5D-50c. The latest CMOS-based product launches also include the CFV-50c digital back for V System photographers and a 200 megapixel Multi-Shot camera, the H5D-200c MS. In this interview Michael talks with us about the Hasselblad CFV-50c Digital Back & the H5D-50c Medium Format Camera System.
The CFV-50c exploits the world’s first medium format CMOS sensor that is a leap forward in digital imaging technology. It breaks new ground for photographers who will now be able to achieve stunning digital quality with their V System equipment. In addition they will be able to shoot regardless of lighting conditions as a result of the very high ISO settings that are capable of unforeseen high quality with remarkably little noise. Furthermore the often wished for long exposures for problem solving or effect are now a reality.
The digital world also offers digital lens corrections that guarantee the optimum in performance at a level not available with scanned film images. You only have to enter the appropriate data – lens type, aperture and focusing distance etc – to see the difference. It produces results you could only dream of in the former analogue era. This feature allows you to experience the ultimate image quality from your treasured Carl Zeiss lenses, not least when used at close range, and is an easy and rapid adjustment in Phocus. In addition, the CFV-50c not only allows photographers to exploit V System equipment but various traditional large- format / technical / view cameras too. In this way the Hasselblad CFV-50c offers an ultra high level of versatility, integration, flexibility and image quality to the photographer who wants to exploit a modern technological advantage in conjunction with preferred traditional equipment.
The brand new and superbly engineered Hasselblad H5D-50c is the world’s first integrated 50MP medium format camera to use CMOS sensor technology. Lower noise levels makes it possible to shoot at much higher ISO values – so even in poor light you’ll be guaranteed matchless crisp, clean images with perfect colour detail. Featuring a 50 megapixel CMOS sensor, the H5D-50c gives you file sizes up to 154MB, ISO up to a staggering 6400 and the widest range of shutter speeds from 34 minutes up to 1/800 second. Now there’s a higher dynamic range too. The new H5D-50c camera copes with even the highest contrast shooting scenarios thanks to its increased dynamic range of 14 f-stops. This will ensure extremely good detail and tonality in shadows and highlight areas.
Thanks to the new Wi-Fi module you can now connect Hasselblad Phocus Mobile softwar* on your iPhone or iPad directly to the camera, enabling direct camera control and image browsing without a computer in sight. Of course this new H5D-50c with Wi-Fi boasts all the functionality of its sibling, including a 50 Megapixel CMOS sensor and excellent high ISO performance at up to ISO 6400.
