About
From her album "Sleeping Bear" ( itun.es/us/6T0v2?i=911690729 )
Gayle and I talked about doing a video for this song a couple of years ago. However due to a number of circumstances we just couldn't make it happen. The idea and the willingness were there but sometimes things like scheduling, budget, or just life prevented us from making it happen. I'm happy to see it finally come to fruition.
I always knew I wanted to play with a Light vs. Dark motif. I grew up in Mexico with the tradition of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) where Marigolds are traditionally used as a guide for the dead souls to visit the living. The Marigold is also closely related to the Sun due to it's vibrant orange/yellow color, symbolizing passion and creativity, but it's also known to carry some negative interpretations such as jealousy, cruelty, grief, and sorrow.
So in other words, it's a flower that makes some people happy and vibrant, while others sad or in some sort of darkness. I think Gayle's "Field of Marigolds" music and lyrics carry the same feeling.
The Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah were the perfect location for this, giving us an eerie sense of a "limbo" like place.
