About

WGBH – the local Boston affiliate of PBS – contracted with BMG to provide video production services and technical management for a special 60-minute town hall broadcast, “America After Ferguson”, hosted by PBS News Hour’s Gwen Ifill, which explored emerging issues in the wake of the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Missouri. With only two weeks lead-time, WGBH needed a qualified video production company with the experience and bandwidth to take charge of the production details, freeing them up to focus on editorial content. BMG got to work, handling all technical aspects of the production, including budgeting, production logistics, technical support, operations, technical equipment and producing a full video production crew.

The event was shot using six cameras in front of a live audience of over 400 at the Touhill Performing Arts Center at the University of Missouri in St. Louis. This marked the first time in history, PBS had integrated live social media interaction into a program. The show’s hashtag – #AfterFergusonPBS – became the number one trending item on Twitter during the show’s airing, fostering a civil and respectful online discussion about a serious national issue.
