About

An interview from the 2014 International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam with Michael Schiehlen of Carl Zeiss. Carl Zeiss is one of the oldest existing optics manufacturers in the world and is world renowned for their optical quality.
In this interview Michael talks with us about their new Compact Zoom Servo Unit, the 15-30mm Compact Zoom, and their new Loxia lens family consisting of the 2/35 & 2/50 lenses.

The new Compact Zoom CZ.2 lenses apply all the features of a cine-style lens. Extra-long focus throw, constant T-stop of 2.9 across the entire zoom range and easy-to-read markings. They are handy, compact, ready for 4k and even offer full-frame coverage. With their zoom lengths of 28-80 and 70-200 mm and newly introduced 15-30, they give you a wide range of creative options.

The Zeiss CZ.2 Servo Unit offers you one compact motor drive for all three Compact Zoom CZ.2 lenses - ergonomically designed, fast and versatile.
Snap-on mounting of the main unit enables fast switching between all three lenses. The focus unit is another modul that can be mounted toollessly and adjust to the respective lens. The unique toolless assembly saves you valuable time at the decisive moment.

ZEISS Loxia lenses were specifically designed for Sony a7 cameras. This means that they can make the most of the mirrorless, full frame system, while giving you all the creative possibilities of ‘classic’ photography with manual focus at the same time. Their are two focal lengths available at the moment, the 50 & 35, which both feature an aperture range of f/2 - f/22 .

One completely new feature of the Loxia lens is that you can ‘declick’ the aperture’s locking mechanism using a tool (supplied) and an adjustment screw on the bayonet surface. This means that for video applications, you can smoothly eliminate any unwanted differences in brightness as you pan the camera. This feature can also be used with other video systems whose size makes them suitable for adaption.
