As a filmmaker and a writer I strive to tell stories through what can be seen. Everything has a story even if you don’t realize it. At first glance the subject might appear boring and average. But if you look closer something ordinary can become extraordinary. How did an object get that way? Why does it look the way it does? Who used it last? Why did that person use it? What’s that person like? I am always curious and dream about the countless stories around me. I see beauty in everything and I try my best to express that hidden splendor through lighting, angles, and shot positioning. I seek to make a story visually compelling using engrossing cinematography. I find that this often means using the camera to become personal with a subject and shoot from close angles not often seen in everyday life. I want to film life in a way that makes the viewer take a second look and think “I never saw it that way before.” I remember as a child marveling at a door when the light hit it just right or the floor when seeing it from a worm’s eye perspective. My goal as a filmmaker is to capture that childish marvel and bring it out in my work.
