Dr. Mudd set John Wilkes Booth's broken leg after the actor fatally shot President Abraham Lincoln at Washington, DC's Ford's Theatre in April 1865. Dr. Mudd maintained his innocence in the assassination plot & about Booth's identity. Today, the Mudd House is a museum & historic site visited by thousands yearly.
