About

This piece is 1 of 7 that were created recently that document various elements of the two Habitation Missions of Biosphere 2 between 1991-1994, and currently play on touch-screens inside the Human Habitat inside Biosphere 2 for visiting tourists. It was photographed by either crew members during Mission 1, or myself when I was sent in for a week late in Mission 2 to document life inside, as it was clear at that point that the sealed Habitation missions were soon to be discontinued. Like everyone else who lived inside, I also performed many of the same functions - cooking, harvesting food and other tasks - when I wasn't filming. It was so engaging, I was not eager to leave that world after the week inside.

Credits

I shot most of the footage, and edited and narrated these pieces.
Steve Bannon - the acting CEO at the time, decided to shoot this documentary, but the editing didn't start until 15 years later.

Technical Info

The footage shot during Mission 2 was shot with a SONY 600 BetaCam SP camera I brought in with me, while the footage shot by Mission 1 crews was done with Hi-8 cameras that were kept inside the sealed experiment. A total of 42 30-minute BetaCam tapes were shot, both interior as well as exterior, and nearly the same amount of 60 minute Hi-8 tapes. These pieces were edited using Final Cut Studio, importing using the DV/DVCPRO - NTSC codec.
