About Us

Today, the interpretation and communication of visual images and objects is of the highest importance. The Visual Studies Program allows students to participate in a new and growing discipline.

Students study the history of the visual arts while making art themselves. They explore a wide range of perspectives on the visual arts, including the history of art, architecture, and design; film, video, and new media studies; aesthetics; semiotics; and cultural studies. The college''s integrative approach allows students to explore these exciting arenas of contemporary culture while developing strong writing skills that will assist them in communicating about the visual world.

Visual studies majors take a variety of lecture courses, seminars, and writing workshops designed around the latest historical and theoretical perspectives in the field. The program culminates in a senior seminar on a special topic, which varies from year to year.
