The creation of the Digital Motion Picture (DMP) program comes at a time when filmmaking is in great transition. New developments in the quality and cost of digital video products are giving storytellers more artistic freedom. George Lucas, Spike Lee, and Tim Burton have already shot feature-length movies using digital cameras. This new accessibility is opening an enormous independent market for those who want to write, direct, edit, and stream their own shows and movies.
