About Us

DOC (formerly known as the Canadian Independent Film Caucus) is a national non-profit professional and advocacy organization dedicated to support the art of independent documentary filmmaking and filmmakers in Canada. Representing over 560 directors, producers, and craftspeople in four regional chapters (Atlantic, Quebec, Toronto, and British Columbia), DOC is the national voice of the independent documentary filmmaker.

DOC began as a political action group in 1983. The first successful lobbying effort lead to the creation of Telefilm Canada''s documentary broadcast envelope, a landmark decision that helped to develop Canada''s now-flourishing independent production industry. Since then, DOC advocacy initiatives have resulted in documentary-favourable changes to the policies of the major funding and regulatory agencies in Canada.
