After the untimely death of his parents, Johnnie Sorrento was not only left with grief but also the burden of his fathers failing business, raising his younger siblings and keeping the family home from foreclosure. Being a young man himself, the pressure of these recent events consumed him. Seeing his cousin Frankie and lifelong friend Sal prospering from their involvement in mob activity, Johnnie was always tempted but reluctant to join them regardless of the constant pestering from Sal.
