The 'Wolfpack' has Festival Juries Drooling

If you haven't already heard, 'The Wolfpack,' won the Grand Jury Prize in its category at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, and has been steadily gaining buzz ever since. Documentarian Crystal Moselle profiles a group of brothers who were raised almost entirely isolated from society in an apartment on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.  Their only link to the outside world was through the movies they watched, then eventually started to recreate.  The film is the story of them breaking out of their rigid confinements. We got a quick interview with one of the brothers, Govinda on his thoughts on the captivating doc. ****

Q: Why did you choose to shot with the Canon 7D and C100?
A: Both of the cameras were small and unobtrusive. The C100 was better for us because I was able to record sound in-camera, which made shooting so much easier.

**Q: What camera support, rigs or accessories were used to help get certain shots? **
A: I occasionally used a shoulder rig, but I didn’t want to use anything else that would make the camera bigger.

**Q: What was one of the most challenging things about shooting this doc? **
A: The process of shooting the documentary was organic, and I followed the story where it took me. I waited to ask their father to appear on camera, but he actually wanted to be filmed and it wasn’t difficult to get him on camera.

**Q: Where did the idea to shoot this come from and did you think it was going to be so successful? **
A: The idea came the first time I met the boys, on 1st avenue in New York City.  I thought they were intriguing and I wanted to know their story immediately.  I had no idea the documentary was going to be so successful.

**Q: What has been one of your favorite parts of shooting this documentary, and why? **
A: The boys are so creative, and seeing the boys’ exercise that creativity has been the best part of shooting this documentary.

Q: What other pieces of equipment were used to create this film? What was used during post production as well?
A: I had a very organic approach to making this film, and didn’t use much additional equipment.  We edited the film on Film Cut Pro 7.

Q: What’s next in regards to future films and projects?
A: I’m working on some projects with the boys, as well as developing some narrative scripts of my own.
