Exclusive First Look: The Cassavetes Project

This Saturday, September 19th from 11 am - 5 pm, the first look at The Cassavetes Project will kick off at Canon Hollywood (6060 Sunset Blvd).

The project is a photography exhibition of never-before-seen images documenting the 1981 theatrical production of writer and director, John Cassavetes', "Three Plays of Love and Hate."

Photographer and Actor, Steve Reisch, who took the special images, met John in the lobby of the Center Theater in Hollywood. John was staging a trio of productions: Love Screams, Knife and The Third Day Comes, that would later become , "Three Plays of Love and Hate."

In its six-month production run, Reisch photographed more than 3,000 behind-the-scenes images that haven't been seen since the end of production in 1981. The photos feature personal moments with Gena Rowlands, Jon Voight, Peter Falk, and a very young Nick Cassavetes, as well as some extremely exclusive photos, like Angelina Jolie with her father.

His camera of choice?

The Canon AE-1 Program camera.

Below are three exclusive comments on three photos in the exhibit from Steve himself.

"These three shots were photographed using the Canon AE-1, which was my go-to still camera in 1981. It  remains my go-to camera in 2015. Canon has been my most reliable business partner for 40 years. For this exhibit, I printed the images on the Canon imagePROGRAF 6450 because it produced the best quality images of any other printer that I tested," says Reisch.

John Cassavetes

The light coming in from the lobby, illuminating John as he was resolving production issues.

**Gena Rowlands and John Cassavetes

One of my favorite images. John passionately clarifying life's mysteries as Gena calmly takes it all in.

Jon Voight

Always good-natured and a delight to work with.

The Cassavetes Project dates:

September 19: Open house 11am-5pm
September 21-November 20: Open Monday-Friday 10am-4pm
