9 Tips for Filmmaking Success

From creating projects for Coldplay, Adidas, MTV, Indieflix and more, to having short film, Text Me, staring Big Bang Theory's Matt Bennett go viral, Dream Team Directors know a thing or two about filmmaking and what it takes to make great films. Their recent YouTube series of 17 video "Tips for Success" provides aspiring filmmakers with tips to help take their films - and careers - to the next level.

Here are a few tips (9 to be exact) to use on your next project:

Use the assets that you currently have to make your project great. If you know someone who does special effects make up, feature that.

It's all about relationships. You may know someone who is a graphic artist, keep that relationship. Be so cool, easy to work with and have such a great personality and excited that people can't help but want to help you.

Get the best cinematographer who is specifically good with light if your film depends on that. Look at their reel, if their images are amazing than they can create amazing images for you. Figure out the look you want and talk with the various members before on how to create that look.

Divide up the hats. Make sure everyone knows exactly what they need to do. An assistant director keeps the flow going or the director will lose their voice.

Good food goes a long way. If you can't pay your crew their normal rates, feed them very well. If someone is physically drained because they don't have enough food, they are not going to have their artistic ability. You need a very well thought out idea or concept. A lot of people think that you are to have a lot of set, costumes, makeup changes and edits.

It’s not about the great camera, it's about  the concept. An innovative, exciting, freshan and unique perspective that is what filmmaking is all about.

Use natural light. The best light is from 5 am to 10:30 am, then from 3pm to after sunset.

Positivity. You do want the best cinematographer, but you want to make sure they have a good attitude because they will be more collaborative, work the long hours, and if there is a barrier that comes up then they will handle it. Great locations are in your background. The more time you spend location scouting, the better you can add production value to your set.

Get a photographer. Create that additional content for behind the scenes and slowly release them to your audience. Use snapchat and vine because with social media, the destiny is in your hands.
